Why Did My New Laptop Get Slow Overnight?
I have a Toshiba Satellite with Vista. It was working perfectly fine, until one day I turned it on and it was running at a snails pace. Weird thing, the internet and all applications work peachy. It’s only things that are directly related to windows (anything on the desktop, searching through documents, even just clicking on “start” is slow). Another thing that occurred this fine day was my xp skin for the toolbar was replaced with windows classic theme and has vanished from my computer. This all occurred when my Norton 360 trail ran out, but I have AVG and it can’t find anything. What is going on??? Please help.

Sounds like a virus or a program that is hogging up your resources. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type “msconfig.exe”
4. In the “system configuration utility”,click either “service” or “startup” tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click “OK”
